I live near a migratory bird refuge, and they'll eat ANY fish - native, non-native - in my back yard "pond." Maybe the folks in the Michigan post could take some of my nuisance raccoons to feed on those snakeheads.

Releasing captive fish in Florida is the worst thing you can do. If you cannot afford to keep them nor do want to kill them, ask someone in the aquarium hobby to take them up. There is usually someone that can take decent care of them, especially if it is a well-known species like the Convicts. There is always the LFS that you can sell the fish back to.

Always seek adoptive options if you cannot bring yourself to kill them. If you can't find someone to adopt them, sell them to a fish store.

Now there will be Flowerhorns and cons amongst the myriad of invasives.
I agree. With their very aggressive temperament, they can do a lot of damages to the native flora and fauna.

Use clove oil or whack their head with a blunt object.

Yes, terrible. Besides, there are several other ways to euthanize a fish.
besides someone alrdy released the texas cichlid in the waters around here.
Which in a dedicated hobbyist's book is not allowed. Have you ever thought what happens when diseases that happen in captivity only break out to wild populations? They become seriously endangered because they have not developed immunity against what disease may plagued on them. Have you ever thought foreign species often do not have natural predators or they themselves are located in the end of the food chain with no natural predators? Wild flora and fauna are being demolished.
now when u go fishing, there always popping up and ppl seem to be happy.
Because they do not learn of the consequences that may happen when you release foreign species. Many people tend to neglect how much they endanger the feral population by releasing captive-bred fish thinking they are doing it for the fish's own good.
i dunt see them causing much harm. flowerhorn and red devils cant be muchhh diffrent.
They can cause much more difference than when not released at all. Use logic in this case. Their temperament alone can harm other feral species. They alone can endanger feral population by introducing diseases not seen in the wilds.

why are you even posting in a forum titled "NEVER release an aquarium fish into the wild."? Are you just trying to start a fight? There are better ways to get your post count up.
I agree, if the title of the thread conatins NEVER release fish, and you post that you released fish, do you think that you will be met with an amenable response?

As for me, I completely agree with the originator of the thread. Whenever I decide to get rid of a fish, I just give it to someone else who wants it. If I can't find anyone, then I take it to the LFS. And if they don't want to take it, I then post an ad at the LFS on the bulletin board for a free fish to a good home. Usually within 2-3 days, I start getting phone calls. ;)

I've done that many times over, Lonewolfblue, and it's definately an overlooked effective way to get rid of fish, aswell as get your hands on some very good fish for free, or virtually free. Plenty of people look at Bulletin boards at your LFS, and really, any pet store. I print my flyers out on lime green printer paper, and it's not uncommon to have a message on my machine by the time I get home.

Aquarium fish cannot survive in the wild in the first place.

If you release them, most proberbly they will die.

Ones that survive create problems.
I was just curious if this is all true??
