New project, will take a long time

Today has been another frustrating day. Went out to a large hardware store to get all the 1.5'' plumbing, they sell everything in metric but the connections etc. have imperial on them. Long story short nothing fitted so I'll have to go back to the Koi place tomorrow to get the right ones.

Anyway, opened the bottom drain and all manner of crap came rushing through. Drained the first chamber and did it again and it was fairly clear. Ran the system through to chamber 2 and it still leaks. I'm going to leave it over night and see how much it leaks but it's still very annoying after 2 repairs.

There is a lot of filtering going to be needed to get the water properly cosmetically clear but once done the maintenance should be quite easy to keep on top of. I'm guessing it will take at least three weeks once everything is running to start seeing results.

It was quite amazing watching everything fall to the bottom of the vortex as planned, I know the theory is sound but it was nice to see it in action.

I hear ya on the fittings not fitting...Nothing like taking a list of needed parts for plumbing, only to find out, they don't stock them or are out of them...

What's worse is when the help tries to get "creative" and tries to sell you a pile of different fittings that, "Do the same thing" ...of course there is additional costs for all the extras, and WTH are you gonna put such a thing...

Glad you got to see the Vorti in action, it's those little sucesses that help along the way...♠:D;)

Thanks bro, I'm feeling good through strangely, yes I'm issed about lack of progress, but seeing the vortex in action was a pleasant sight, a huge concern also because of the amount of waste that came out first time but after the second flush it wasn't too bad but there is still a huge amount to filter, the water is ok but not great, I'm guessing and this changes depending on how much I think about it, to about a month for clarity.

It was funny, I drained about 1000 litres for the drain purge and cleaning and then refilled the pond. All the ghosts sat under the new water which is hurrying me up somewhat. I also cleaned the filter on the skimmer, 2 tiny layers of jap mat that were completey full of crap, I need to fire up the big boy as soon as possible, even still there's months of daily filter cleaning and purging to get his thing clear, I do hope it's worth it in the end.

I've finally come to a solution to the leak, not my idea, I need to be less tired to explain.

After a huge amount of persueding I 've got Mrs Y's agreement to split the return like master Tequila suggested, but encorparating Mrul07's idea of reducing the flow at the same time, if I can get all the bits tommorrow, I'll assemble the lot in doors and as soon as the weather breaks install the lot in one go. Thanks guys:)

Getting the bits is the time consuming bit, I went to a b+q warehouse today and they didn't sell flexible piping, internet searchs are no good, but I've got a tip off.

More tomorrow

Oh no you di ent...
How could anybody with a soul fall out of love with this project...It will be permanantly eched in my brain forever...

True I been busy with the only luxury item I can justify this year, and it seems to be going fairly well...No real issues yet...Yet I say because we all know that anything over a couple of hundred gallons has a way of going bad really fast if it does...What can happen, will happen and I am trying to stay ahead of the game...I got this Idea of a maintenance free system, and I am going to get as close to it as possible...
AnywaY...Cheers Brother, keep me posted...~Zennz:D;)
I just realized that I have no time left to get these Monsters out of their grow-out tank. They need to be in their new home ASAP. I can already see some of them going up for adoption because they are growing faster than any of the research I did, said they would...

I just gotta ask, hows that?
