If that pond was built where I live, it would freeze to at least 2 feet in mid winter. A heater would be needed to keep a small unfrozen hole open all winter.
Is it could enough to freeze running water? If not you only needs a small hole for gas exchange, can be achieved in many waysSovietFireExtinguisher;2980075; said:If that pond was built where I live, it would freeze to at least 2 feet in mid winter. Sounds more like a formal pond to me, and feel free to cheat away at 50 foot long. If you've got that much space then a formal pond would look very nice if set correctly with a good planting scheme around it. It would be a nightmare to filter using bottom drains, correction very expensive to set up.greengiant;2980405; said:sorry I guess I will be a cheater then cause when I build a pond it will be large and I aint no human Backhoe. with the size of my place I want to build it into the landscape so it would be total about 50FT long and 3ft across average with some wider areas and changing depths. I got a picture in my head but no cash in my pocket so its gonna be a while before I begin anything. I like to re-read threads every now and then just to refresh my memory of what has taken place. keep it up I have never left watching this thread just maybe not commented every time I've been by and enjoy a few days off to clear the mind it brings things back into perspective and to see how much you have gone through and how well this is turning out is awesome you will never regret an accomplishment such as this.

It would be interesting to find out, I know how much it cost me to do it because I've got all the receiptsmoosipher;2980879; said:Speaking of which.. have you actually worked out how much money you have saved by doing the whole damn thing yourself?
Could be interesting working out what it would have cost you to get someone in to dig, hire the digger, lay the slabs, fit the pipework etc...

greengiant;2982431; said:your correct it will be a bit more of a formal pond but its gonna take some time before I have the money to do much more thinking on it as I haven't been employed for 3 months so needless to say my money for my projects I had intended to do this summer has been vanishing Quickly. for me getting an excavator is not that hard as I have several friends who have them so just need to line that part up but I really want to have all my materials on site before I dig the hole so when it does get dug then I can lay liner right away. my intentions are to be more like a stream than a "pond" the water will be a couple feet deep the entire length but a deep end. when it comes closer to making this dream a reality I will post pics of my plans and the land layout. will make alot more sense. your pond is an amazing project and is a great size for your property. I look forward to reading up on it every day so keep up the good work. Is it just me or have the replys from Zenn dropped of alot on here?
Oh no you di ent...Yanbbrox;2982681; said:Zennzzo, is busy working on the 225, he's fell out of love with the project
When I started this project I stated 'if it costs it costs' and took it from there, used to saving etc. just to start, I'm being made redundant in a month or so, hence why I want it done, I can live without the deck over the filters as long as it's running(long story) but it needs to up and running by the 19th of may.
In Short if you can..... do it, you never know what is around the corner
