yeah that about sums it up.. but we are allowed to 23.9" if we hit 2' we need a fence
That does seem strange considering you can drown in an inch of water. What's wrong with a fence?basslover34;3058813; said:yeah that about sums it up.. but we are allowed to 23.9" if we hit 2' we need a fence

It's daft everything I've read about keeping sturgeon in koi ponds says the same thing, keep it well oxygenated and make sure the koi are well fed before you feed the sturgeon as the koi will out compete them and they will starve to death.
Considering I've never seen one of the sterlets since they went in(apart from rescues from the filter), I went out for the evening feed and the koi stayed routed to the bottom, minutes later both diamonds and sterlets were up feeding on the koi food, these will easily be hand feeding in less than a week as they didn't care that we were there. They can then get hand fed the sturgeon food and not the koi pellets
Another day and another big clarity improvement, I can see the odd tiny stone on the bottom now.
Oh flame off and read a book or some sturgeon info on the netTequila;3062757; said:Best food for the Sturgeons, in my opion will be dead, rotting Koi's - trust me on this one. Sturgeons will grow much faster and larger if you feed them rotting koi flesh, instead of Koi or Sturgeon pellets.

I'm going to pay £X for a koi, chop it up and throw it in the pond for the sturgeon, whilst I try to keep the pond crystal clear
The filtration could handle it, it's just not happening. I rarely buy large fish, I prefer to get them small and grow them out, live with itTequila;3067566; said:Well actually it would be better if you allowed the koi to rot just a bit before you feed them out. Look I never said that you needed to do this with expensive koi. As for worrying about your ponds clearity, isn't that what this great filtration system of your supposed to do with ease. Especially with the huge bio-load it's supposed to have. C'mon where's you sense of trying new things, sorry I just don't like Koi that are smaller than 12 inches. Anything smaller is like bait
