New project, will take a long time

..If I'm being honest I was amazed and how well it ran, we did a none media test to see how it went and it did go well but obviously there were a few leaks, but none of which were on the pipe work that I'd welded, even the big stuff:woot::woot:

I turned the big boi valve(it's pet name, I still say it's big enough for it's own thread;)) and the sieve filled and went over the weir and worked ridiculous well for the 5-10 minutes the system was on, granted a lot of waste has had time to settle in the under ground pipe but seriously:WHOA:
10mins.jpg

Then the weir shut off as it floated above the pond level(as it should) and then we turned the pump on, no need to fook about with hosepipes to prime the pump any more, fired first time straight into the nexus.

First leak(in red):

thread.jpg

This is a threaded connection that came of off the nexus when I got it, I ran out of PTFE thread tape doing the pump and it does leak a touch, nothing serious, just need some tape on it job done:)

Second leak:
tight.jpg

There is a leak from the screw on the right, it turns out that when I removed the plate that sits there to convert the unit from gravity to pump fed the nut didn't hold as well as the other one on the left. Tightened up job done:)

Third leak:
Unknown, the unit is leaking underneath somewhere(it was second hand), again nothing serious but is losing water somewhere from one of the drain pipes(each section has a drain pipe).

With the thing full of water and the waste lines not plumbed in(to waste) it took two hours to drain via siphon, to get everything out.

I remember seeing some tape as it was passed over to me over a fence to get it in. Solution, obviously the 'magic' epoxy but this late in the day everywhere was shut.

Tomorrow:

1. Buy 'magic' epoxy and fix the under side leak.
2. Get some PTFE thread tape and fix the screw connection
3. Open bottle of wine and sit and watch the pond clear, the internal vortex with no media took out so much crap on it's own even after the sieve;)

Thanks for reading my ramblings, a even bigger thanks to Dan 'next door' for helping, he really enjoyed it apparently:nilly:

Happy pond keeping everyone:)

A Most EXCELLENT week end...

Good , no GREAT job on the 4" PVC too...

seems like very minor things to "adjust" I like that!...

Well it is good to see you are not using that shovel to "fill in" Our pond!;):D
I'm glad you made the upgrades, they look like they are going to be worth their weight in British Sterling...;)

For the few mins it was on the vortex effect took a huge amount of crap out. once it's all properly setup I'll do a vid.

Sounds like its coming along swimmingly!

I know what Dan means by enjoying it. Nothing better than seeing a job well done after working with your hands. Other than sitting back and enjoying it with a beer...

wow that was a great day. thanks for the pics to help explain. sounds like going this route is a surefire way to have a happy pond. and only 3 minor leaks thats awesome. well I can't wait to see the video andf the pond clearing quickly. you will be a busy man for the first little while till this baby clears up but it will be so nice and easy very shortly. and those frogs shouldn't be an issue in this thing either.

Ok we've nailed two out of the three leaks, the screw wasn't an issue and the threaded pipe was fixed with the PTFE tape as planned.

The nexus was emptied to see what was what underneath and there it was, both exit pipes had been gaffer taped up, not a problem, tape removed and the magic epoxy added. Filled it back up turned everything back on and it still leaked:irked:

So it was emptied again and we looked for leaks, it turns out it's actually leaking from the rubber boot to the eazy(central chamber). Boot was removed and put on again, refilled and it sill leaks??? I've never had a rubber boot leak ever??? Anyway I've we've left it setup, the leak is not as bad as it was, I've filled the inner chamber with K1 and added a touch of the mature bio to the outer chamber, there is still another 100 liters to add, but we are off out tomorrow looking for something to use as a permanent return and I may get a new rubber boot and try that.

Nigel has his money and I bought a second air pump to run the nexus as well. Mrs Y has found another fish, really strange a kohaku that wears lipstick, not enough cash after the pump so it'll have to wait, he's holding the fish for us anyway.

I swear I can see a difference already but maybe I'm just being hopeful, I think the upgraded UV will take a lot out time will tell.

Vids are uploading.

Here is a vid of the sieve working:

And here is the nexus not completely setup as there is little bio in the outer chamber, the filter floss is just to see what it catches, water is still filthy. Also you can see the very temp return.

:headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2 Fine Job Brother!!

Is it the boot on the nexus from where the sieve feeds it?

On the boot...check the area underneath the hose clamp for possible overtightening cracks in the rubber...sometimes they get overtightened and the edge of the hoseclamp cuts into the boot...

On the thinner rubber boots I run a couple of passes of duct tape on the rubber under the hoseclamp.
So when you tighten it down, the clamp beds into the duct tape and not too sharply into the actual rubber...;)
