extremely long drill bit?
4 inch drill bit, two foot long, someone must sell them. I'd be happier with that than a hammer:)

looks unbelievable.... i am always shocked at magnificient progress..

For your holes you might be able to get yourself a posthole digger (basically an auger with a "T" handle, and just aug your way through. Can usually rent them at places like home depot.

The powered ones are scary. I was thinking of just the manual ones - he's digging through clay after all, and not very far. The manual ones just have a T handle at the top and a solid shaft down to the auger blade, and you crank them by turning the handle by hand.

Update: well I've been at work all week, now I have a couple of day's off so we will see how far I get, I say I, father has returned from where every he and mother have been for the last month so I have help:)
Managed to get the valves and connectors for the waste system for the vortexes, thanx to someone who will be credited at the end of phase one for the help so far...( the pipes in between are already in the garden;))

I want to try and get the drain and pipe work in and the hoover dam project sorted over the next two days, trouble is it's been non stop rain for the last week and it's forecast for tomorrow and I need to get the wood for the dam and the push fit pipes to rig up the vortexes:
