New project, will take a long time

I did say in the thread title that it would take a long time;)

Yeah the fan base is growing and supporting when thinks go bad, I'll bet there will be a few twists and turns before completion to come:nilly:

As for the frogs, one died when it got sucked into the pump, the other one made it through the pump and ended up in the pipe, that one made it. Since then another one has died in the pump but about 50 or 60 have been saved from hole one into the old pond, for some reason they are a bit over excited about the new pond and can't wait to move in.

I'm sure you'd have offered to ship it to me free as well;)
Heck I would've had them airlifted straight away dude, I would have even sent the direction with it. You could have finished that stuff in one to two days.

Glad you sat back relaxing and enjoying all my hard work:)

Well I don't recall you asking me if I wanted to help. If asked I may have jump across the pond to show you how it's done, all you need do was supply the transport, I would have brought the jackhammer at no extra cost too you.;)

When finished if ever you gonna put George in this tub?

The way the airlines are going bust over here I wouldn't have been able to get you a flight anyway;)

As for George, no it's far too cold in the winter to even consider it and I'm not adding any heating system to it. That will be the next and last fish related project, a final tank for George to grow old in, but it won't be happening for a least another year yet.

George will await patiently... how are you doing...

First thread I've ever read without skipping to the end. Great job.
The end? It's finished? No leaks? fully stocked and paid for?:headbang2

Oh no that way the dream I had the other night:nilly::nilly::nilly:

Thanks;)

Just working on the pictures from today, and I have a question for someone else to hopefully solve?

I wonder how long it will take for someone to ask 'Who's George'?

Not much happened really in the grand scheme of things but everything is now ordered. Another ton of sand and another ton of chippings has arrived along with all the flags to go around the pond. Liner and underlay is also on order which leaves only the electrics to get to the back and the UV to get. In all honesty the UV will probably wait a month or so once everything is up and running and fitted but that's will be all that's done this year, next year the filters will have a deck on them, I'll fit a skimmer with a separate filter for that and add a waterfall, but I'll get this year sorted first.

Well everything fits:

Well almost, had to dig in a bit to get the waste pipe in:

Right now for my promised question.

Here was the plan:
gap.jpg
The plan was to have a bin between vortex 2 and 3 that the pump would sit in and then pump to return. After trial fitting it today it would cause a few problems:

1. The top of bin needs to be level with the vortexes or it won't work
2. This means that the inlet to the bin will be about 3/4 of the way up it and a pain to connect.
3. I'm really not sure that there is enough depth left to feed the filters behind it via gravity to stop the pump from running dry.

After several brainstorming(big word alert;)) sessions today there are several possibilities:
A. Go with the bin idea and hope it works
Pros: if it does great
Cons: if it doesn't then :nilly:

B. Place the pump at the bottom of vortex 3
Pros: It would solve the problem
Cons: The Kaldnes above it would be doing nothing and the pump would be in the waste chamber

C. Place the pump(somehow) 2 thirds up in vortex three, effectively just touching the bottom of the Kaldnes
Pros: Should work
Cons: I'm still not sure that the kaldnes would be doing a good enough job, plus adding more media would in the end have the pump sat in the middle of a moving bed filtration system which I'm sure is not ideal

D. Hope someone on here has either a better idea or
could provide reassurance that A or C would work
Pros. It would help my headache a lot.
Cons: None

Over to you

Here is my question, why do you want to put the filteration system below ground level? The pond I understand, but the filteration???? :irked:

So many things can go oh so very wrong here and you may not know it until it's way too late. I can only hope that you have made plans to place cut off valves between each and every container and from where the water leaves the pond and where it returns to the pond.

I bet if you endure the plumbing hassle between Vortex 1 & 2 you'll be happy.
You basically have all the head from the top of the vortices to the bottom of the pond, to feed the first two and supply the pump. As long as your pump isn't overkill you'll be alright, IMO
