I do not really know ponds but I work on pools for a living. 1/2 a horse power seems kind of under doing it. When you go to vacuum the pool I bet you would appreciate extra power. When we install pumps we usually go 1 1/2 horses.

I checked out filter felt media. Wow was it dirty. I wonder how often I'm going to have to change it. I put one layer of felt in the last layer of media. I had two layers but it was restricting the water flow too much.

The bog has turned out to be quite the little mermaid hangout.

I placed a couple of gobs of algae from my other pond to speed up the maturing process.

The plants are starting to kick in. You can see the new growth coming in.

I finally did it. I gave my kids a couple of little fish to let go in the pond. They were so happy. The fish make things so interesting for them while they're swimming.

I really need to figure out a vacuuming system. My filter seems to be working great because the water is crystal clear. But the dirt that settles to the bottom is tuff to get.

Something is wrong with the site. It doesn't let me upload pictures. I'll get them on when I can.

Thats the reason I don't like felt. It works great, just gets clogged to fast and makes my pump work harder.

I haven't been able to rinse and re-use it either which kinda sucks. Seems to really trap debris inside the fabric. Again, great for polishing the water, just a little pricing to replace that often.

Is there a problem with this site? I don't get the usual spaces to upload photos.

So far I think that the felt will work pretty well. I just ran it under the hose for a while and rung it out like a towel. It is pretty fine though.

hey tuggerd how ya doing here is an idea for your dirt in the bottom problem

take a wet dry shop vac extend the hose connecting to the vacumn so that you can set the vacumn on the side of the pool and go into the pond with it. To make it so that you can run the vacumn constantly cut a drain hole and attach a hose to in the bottom of the vacumn so that the water will flow through back into the pond. to work at filtering the dirt leave the dust screen in or get some fine mesh cheese cloth and line the inside of the vacumn should catch all the debris.

though this might cause some fine particulate to suspend in the water after you vacumn should be less and less

the pond looks so great

what have you had show up in the way of wildlife

Wow! You're right about that filter felt. I'm thinking about ringing it out and then maybe in the washer. Its a little too fine.

I think the poo may be the neighbors cat.
