We almost have the sidewalk finished. We placed the corner boulder in nicely so that we'll be able to sit. The guys poured the last minute bench so the kids can walk from the entrance to the river fountain without going under. It seems that they also poured the floor of the river/fountain. I found the coolest rock flooring to go with of the green tints in some the larger river rocks that I have. It comes with a mess behind it, it's glued and then we'll put a dark mortar to fill in the gaps. I want a natural look, but also something that I can afford. It will also heat the pool up a little bit more in the shallow areas. The last picture is of the first step that's under water that will lead up to the deck.

I got another lunch break and was able to see them starting on the settling chamber. I got the power sprayer and muric and started cleaning the cement off of the rocks. The large rocks are in place for the fountain. I told them to also connect the pipes running to and from the apartments waterfall so that I can spread the dirt around and finally plant it.

That is freakin cool. I really like the way it's coming out, it's going to look amazing once you are done.

Your using soil/dirt in the bog area?

Can you just use various sized gravels? I would think it would be cleaner in the pool as some particles are bound to get released from the bog and settle in the pool. I say this since I removed some runners off my Bull Rush, that was planted in straight gravel, and it had an obscene amount of dirt and debris trapped in the roots. I thought the roots were going to be clean, but I was wrong. Over the years they have trapped countless leaves and stuff that trashed my water clarity for 3 days.

Just food for thought...

My pygmy Nicaraguan was able to take apart the deck this weekend. Before I put any plants in my bog I'll wash the dirt out of the roots. I also did with my water lilies. There are just rocks and roots in the planters. They seem to be flowering jsut fine.

Good Idea to wash the roots. Like I said I had them planted in gravel only, but after a few years the roots have trapped leaves and such which made my pond look like crap few a few days when I rearranged them a little. I don't really mind, because my pygmies aren't going to swim in it.

Hey guys, I'm pretty happy with how the pond is turning out so I decided to make a better vantage point to enjoy the pond. While we have the cement mixer and three workers I wanted to take advantage and get a lower maintenance deck. Also when the pond is finished I didn't want concrete spattering all over everything. This will also give me a nice storage area below the deck.
