Very nice! I wouldn't mind seeing one of those perched next to my pond. All I get buzzing around it are mosquito's...

Yippy! I can finally see the bottom. It's hard to be patient, but it always clears up. I guess thats what I get trying to rush nature. The rain has been great for the garden. Those of you who have been following this thread might remember the yellow breasted bird that was dive bombing my head. Well they chased the bittern away. By the way, that was the bird in the last pictures. I was able to find a good sealing for the white sidewalk around the pool that will keep it looking a little nicer. Wow my learning curve continues to be steep on this project.

I have noticed all your fish except you have not highlighted any scavengers i.e. snails and plecos. Are they needed or will they eat your cichlids' eggs ?

I had a plague of snails about 5 months ago. Then they disappeared. I don't really know how much more scavengers would really make a difference because I vacuum the ceramic part twice per week. I did put about 5 small crayfish in the pool. The fish are reproducing like crazy. I was thinking of some kind of predator fish but then they might clean everything out. I'm really learning about the natural balance of things and how everything kind of works itself out. Its tricky messing with nature.

Holy crap these tropical fish are multiplying like crazy. I'm trying out some new plants in the water to see if they survive. The other plants that I planted in the filter seem to be doing pretty well. I have a couple of new heliconia's blooming.
