You looooong B@st@rd, its been 3days of spare time viewing & by really taking the time to view everyone's write-up & study your plethora of picture uploads - and im still only bout 30 pages in.

Geeze, your having a serious crack at life bud. At least you had the common sense to do it somewhere fitting. What's 1/8th of a dollar between friend yeah.

I'll reserve my comments till i hit the end of this conveyor belt of a thread.

I would have liked to have done it in Australia but work permits are too hard to come by there. I did my student teaching in Geelong. What a country.

Yeah its a decent place to live thats for sure. Although it gets progressivly cruzier the more north you go. It tends to be more professional focus in the lower 2 east coast states.

Student teaching, geeze your a mixed bag aren't you bud. Geelongs like a country bumkin town for melb i thought, although admittedly ive only driven through it on my way to bells beach. Because im on the sth east side of the bay, i dont venture much on the other side.

Well, finally made the rest of the journey, the goal posts kept moving due to viewing it on different platforms, so page numbering was all over the shop causing an awful lot of revisits. I got there though, so im up to date.

If this is due to dreaming & forking out some green more than pure explicit planning, then i say it equates to the same outcomes. An evolving multifaceted project that has you hooked...... & by the look of comments along the way, the rest of us as well.

Your water level looks far superior at these levels. Keeping it there as you mentioned is a hassle till you find the leak source. Perhaps a combination of things besides the usual evap & diffusion. If you cant lock it down, my only suggestion would be to grab a moisture probe and benchmark the perimeters. Given the lay of the land, you would know what your expecting before long.

If your looking to spend any more money in the future, try looking at a liquid nanotech SiO2 layering product. In a spray-able form, it might potentially assist in a whole host of applications regarding your project.

The choices, & sometimes experimental planting, the greenage tug of war headaches, wildlife gatherings in some Costa Rican field of dreams, or the evolutionary build focus - these all pail in light of those select handfuls of shots of your family being met & frolicsome with the aquatic inhabitancy. This is the dream realised. Well done bud.

Although i did notice, not one test result of any kind?

*In Edit* I was also thinking about your earthworm problem. Given a course mulch, would that allow them to transverse the surface, yet not try to go higher?

lol, gold

yeah earthworms every rainy season when the ground is waterlogged?

I hope you have shares in the local concrete works, cause this project alone was enough for dividends, let alone when you start doing this for other people. Which i might add, if you go that route - good luck with it!

During your build I was wondering about the negative impacts of using concrete in the manner. Besides the usual suspects of raising alk sky high and contributing a handful of other elements to the water column, it would be interesting to note the lime content it contributes to the surrounding area. Although we saw it emptied more than once at the start - what did you do with all that water bud?
