Gone through another heater!!!! Smh, I swear I don't even get a year out of them anymore....

I wouldn't think you'd even need to use heaters where you live.
 
Yep....never kept discus but I do know that much about them.
 
mines dead so no issues there, as for heaters, if water gets to low or they not always fully submerged at least past the water mark they can burn up in a hurry. I have had most me heaters for years, both cheap and expensive have only had one in the past 3 years go bad. we talking 8 to 10 heaters.

I always keep mine submerged. I wonder if it could be overworked. The tank is next to a window, and next to a fan. Also the wiring in our house is really old, I wonder if that would matter.
