Official Off Topic Discussion Thread #1

Hello; For what it is worth a theory about the start of "mad cow" disease was that central nervous system parts ( brains and spinal chords) were incorporated into processed cattle feed. So it also made the cattle cannibals I suppose.
Peanut allergy is bad news for those who have it. For the majority of us it is very good food. I recall when in the Boy Scouts of America back in the 1950's there was a program called "The Order of The Arrow". Those of us who were sponsored had to under go three days of varying ordeals. Each day we had to perform physical tasks. I recall that the only food was peanut butter and water for at least the first day. No one asked about peanut allergies that I can recall.

Sounds like the woman needs to mind her own business and I hope the parent very colorfully told her as much.....and SK yeah, years ago we never heard of any peanut allergies.

Peanut allergies can kill a kid. Don't know how overboard the lady went but not worth losing a kid over it.

Tbh when ever a new kid is over the house my wif always asks if they kid is allergic to PB. May not have been common yrs ago but it's very real today.

Studies are showing that allergists are able to reverse that allergy in some children by feeding small amount and gradually increasing it.

how overboard the lady went
Hello; My take is that the woman who attacked the mother went overboard by making a big public display about the PB sandwich. Likely some other ways to handle it other than that way. Say just quietly ask the mother if the child is allergic. It also seems likely the mom already knew the child is not allergic.
There is a big store in Knoxville TN called Rural King. They have a big bin of peanuts near the front door. They also have signs warning of the peanuts.
I forget the name but a steakhouse use to have peanuts and their shells all over the place.

not worth losing a kid over it.
Hello; Not sure what is implied here so will hedge my comments. If you mean parents should be careful with kids with the allergy then I agree.
If you mean that strangers should harass parents who feed PB to children then I do not agree.

How would a kid get lost....the kid's mom should easily know a great deal more about her own child's medical requirements than some random woman on the street.....unless I am misunderstanding borg's post?

I might have miss understood it. I took it as some mom when nuts on a women who gave her kid a PB sandwich.

My comments about losing a kid we're just to say that it really can kill.

Hello;
Not looking for a big debate buddy. I don't know any of the details just what the other members posted.

"Did anyone hear about a lady giving a parent a hard time because she gave her kid a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at a Target"

Again don't know anything besides this but yeah please don't feed my kid anything especially something that can be allergic and if your a stranger... My wife woukd have went off If some stranger gave my kids any food without permission

I also had to go back and re read it to be as clear as I could on what he meant and I know all too well about how dangerous to some people peanuts suddenly seem to be.My wife is a teacher and she has told me all kinds of stories about how the noxious nuts are dealt with at her work...they are pretty much banned as well as anything that is even cooked in peanut oil.
I know that they can kill a child but that doesn't give someone the right to get up in someone's face as they feed their own child.

The woman sounds like an antifa type but a bit less cowardly since she acted on her own.
