Animals are much more plastic than people give them credit for, if we give em somewhere to go, allow them to migrate and breed they can usually survive.
Animals do not merely live within our rules beliefs and conceptions.

I wish the poor cardinals in my area would get that memo.I see less of them every year as the feral cats are wiping them out.
I have a nieghbor who has added the feral cats to his list of things to kill, with rats and groundhogs.
I have a neighbor who supports feral cats.He feeds and provides shelter for them but does nothing about them reproducing.
I'm with your neighbor on the cats and rats but I wouldn't kill the groundhogs.
Why? They trash gardens, they take a bite out of every single thing you have growing and trample the plants, they undermine sheds and houses, and they will rip open your grocery delivery and eat it, right in front of your door.
Hello; Yes to this. Robins keep trying to nest in the rafters of my open sided stick built carport. I knock down the nests as they try to build them. Two reasons. One is they dump on my truck. The other is cats climb up into the rafters by getting on the roof of my truck and eat the young birds.
This spring they did not try to nest in the carport and picked a spot on the back porch. I left them alone and last week all four young birds fledged.
Hello; how about when one digs a den under our house or out building?
The groundhogs won't be digging anywhere on my property as the few that were in this area has been either killed or chased off by the dogs that a lot of us now have.If there were any around I would simply trap and relocate them.
Killing off native birds is a bit more of a crime than digging up a few garden plantings.
