Well in the name of justice, the San Francisco fathers have decided that low income people will get traffic fines reduced by 50%, and homeless people will get their traffic fines reduced by 80%.

They must feel so magnanimous, not understanding that any homeless person who owns a car will get the heck out of San Francisco. If you’ve ever bought gasoline there you know it’s a dollar more than anywhere else in California, and two dollars more than nearly anywhere else in the nation.

I can’t see homeless people hanging around in San Francisco so they can pay seven dollars a gallon. And of course you can’t afford to park a car there, so everybody keeps driving.

Hello; I am two or more driving days away from California so do not have direct knowledge of such things. I do get bits of information about the way things are going via news & commentary such as yours. Impressions gleaned over decades are the overall benefits make life for the homeless, illegal border crossers and I guess "low income people" make staying there possible.

Saw on the news that the state spent billions taking care of the illegal border crossers, so the coffers are dry, and the governor is asking for billions of federal money in the wake of natural disasters. Not clear such is a part of what you refer so i may be mistaken.

I do not know if the TV shows which make fun of how the homeless defecate on the sidewalks is about San Francisco or perhaps another city in the state. Perhaps there are several cities with such lax hygiene law enforcement.

Many decades ago, 60's &70's, my take was the gentle year-round weather was the draw for being homeless. Did not have to face freezing weather. But your point did not escape me. That being the double standard in terms of "traffic fines". Best i recall in some European countries (Italy maybe) the fine for speeding is income based. The more wealth a person has the larger the fine.
