Oh Deer!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Coyotes wouldn't leave it behind. They never know when their next meal will be so they often over feed if the opportunity presents itself. Cats on the other hand will kill purely for sport at times and not eat the remains afterwards. This most often happens with domestic house cats rather then feral cats, due to them having a constant food source.

Not really too experienced with foxes so can't really put any input into that one. I would imagine they would eat what they kill tho.
Well by “dead bird” I mean pile of feathers. I doubt a large coyote would go after a small bird though.

I have a hawk that hangs out in a tree in the front yard some.
He watches a field / cow pasture that adjoin our property.
I’ve witnessed it take rabbits and a few different birds.
Once I watched it take a rather large red headed wood pecker.
Nothing but feathers when he was done.

I looked out the kitchen window and saw a black German Shepard taking a stroll on our driveway. I was trying to figure out which neighbor owned the dog when I realized it was a neighborhood bear. They are a total nuisance--can't have garbage cans outside or the garbage will be strewn all over the place.

The neighbors next door and across the road have seen a mountain lion. Fox, skunks, raccoons all live in our neighborhood. I found a fish on our driveway...some bird must have dropped his dinner. There are lots of fish in the river below our house.

Here in the uk foxes are hated by many people. Especially the country types, farmers and such. But the past few decades has also seen an increase in urban populations too, so even town people with rabbit hutches or chicken coops in their gardens are also fair game for these opportunistic nuisances.

The reason they are hated so much is due to their "style" of killing. If one gets into a chicken coop it will kill ALL the chickens and take what it can carry in its mouth, typically one!! An extremely wasteful and devastating method of killing. I lived on a small farm as a kid and on occasion i witnessed this devastation first hand.

For the record though I love foxes, but if I decided to get some chickens in my back yard for eggs, or a couple of pet rabbits for my son, then in time, i'm sure I would come to hate them too.
aunt lives on battery park, middle of London. Have seen foxes multiple times there

I've found and buried a halve of a fawn that was killed in my front lawn the head and 2 front legs. I would assume a pack of Coyote. Found a trail of dry blood on the side of the house so the fawn tried to get away from running from the back of the house. I was told when born the fawn does not have a scent so it moved from where the Doe left it.
i would actually guess raccons, if a fawn. Very cruel animals, kill for sport and only eat the organs of animals that they kill

I had a dove living by my house for a while. I even named it. As it took off flying one day it was snatched by a hawk...
It actually wound up wrestling the hawk to the ground and got away. It didn’t really come by often after that and stopped after a few days.

I have seen a pack of Raccoons they woke me up like 3 am. It was 5 fighting 1 and chasing the one. Maybe a possible outsider. I wouldn't think they could carry off the other half of a carcass though.

I used to live in a big city and I would often see wildlife in my neighbourhood. Deer, coyotes, porcupine, skunks, and even a bobcat that lived across the street. It’s always neat to see them in such a densely (human) populated area.

I can’t seem to find the pic but I saw a bobcat right across the street from my house and took a video of it walking 5’ in front of me as if it didn’t even care about me being there at all. It was the size of a medium to large sized dog. I walked through out the condo complex and warned some folks about its presence and let them know to keep an eye out for their dogs, cats and small children.

I warned one of my neighbours who had 4 small children, 3 of whom were easily prey sized for the cat. She said here take the small one please and tried to hand over her baby ??

Yes, we are very fortunate to live where we do. The wildlife are just part of the neighborhood. Just down the road they sell wood sculptures of the salmon they pull out of the river--but I had to have my pacu on our gate.
