Oh Wal Mart

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The 3 Walmarts near me aren't too bad. Still overstocked and bad pairings, but the tanks are kept fairly clean and disease free. If ich breaks out they will put up signs saying the fish are being medicated and aren't for sale.

Doesn't stop them from stuffing 25 2-3" Green Spotted Puffers in a 20g though. Half of them are usually missing fins and tails.

Can't really stop it by 'rescuing' the fish. All that does is enable them (Fish sold = Profit). Supplier credit for dead fish doesn't cover the cost of running the system. Selling fish does. Only way they will stop carrying them is if nobody buys any fish at all and they stop turning a profit.

I'm interested in seeing the remodeled aquatic center. One of ours remodeled last year but they didn't change the fish tanks at all. A new one opened up about a week ago though, will have to go check it out.

They have the labyrinth gland, so they can technically live in low quality water, but putting them in a Dixie cup size container is just wrong. I don't know where or when it became right, but I hate it. My Betta had some pretty bad fin rot and I took care of him and he lives happily in a 10 gallon. I actually saw some bettas kept in those little clear Solo brand cups tonight. The ones you get like salad dressing in and condiments like ketchup. It's disgusting. And I also really enjoy seeing the fish that are painted on. That's ridiculous.

That's so terrible. I really wish there was something that could be done about it here. Maybe I'll just complain every time I go in. I don't care what they say back, I have A.D.D so I'll just trail off into something else and ignore what they have to say back. Lol. I really wish I could steal them and take care of them.
It would change if the corporate office in Bentonville office would make each store have one person trained on fishkeeping (manager/supervisor) be in charge of making sure the tankd were cleaned and cared for; I believe that would either make the chain stop selling fish due to care costs, or maintain better tanks. Maybe a petition on several of these fish sites being signed and sent would do it......I dont know if might even take a lawsuit by an animal rights group (walmart hates lawsuits). Tay Im glad you care about the fish in walmart.....that just shows your probably a good fishkeeper and that you have a good heart, its such a pleasure to hear from concerned people like yourself, that I get really annoyed when they get flamed; but dont worry I got your back ;)

Hahaha, thanks man, thats awesome of you :) I just wanted to show my feelings on the subject and I never thought my thread would get 900+ views and all these responses. I remember we used to have someone working with only the fish about 7 or 8 years ago, and I've noticed them being there less and less and now theres no one to take care of them at all. It really is sad. And when I say "rescue them" I mean steal those poor little fish and take care of them. Eff paying wal mart for them. Lol. They could care less if they get taken care, I'd be doing THEM a favor. And if I was there and ever saw them selling those sick fish to someone, I don't care who it is, I'd say something. Lol. I'm just that kind of person. I'm a good fish mommy and I take excellent care of my fish. :headbang2

I won't put any fish in anything smaller than a twenty gallon. My betta loves having all the room and actually having a filter which most people do not give bettas.
