I know I couldnt keep anything dainty in there but has anyone been able to keep like 1 well rooted big amazon sword with Oscars? I was laying out my aquascape for my new tank that will have 2 oscars and 1 L-191 royal pleco and would like to have a splash of green in there, are any plants safe with these fish?

ive had some luck taking fake plants with a nice base on them and siliconing them down to a piece of glass 6"x6" and burrying it under the sand or gravel its tough to move

Out of 6 Oscars I've got 1 pair together that don't bother their (fake) plants a single bit, I'm sure they wouldn't bother real plants either. My other 4 Oscars all give their plants a twice-daily shake, toss & rearrange whether they need it or not lol It certainly never hurts to give it a shot. And plants don't cost that much. If they'll leave them alone for even 4 or 5 months at a time you could always replace them.

a story i have heard so i dont know how valid it is but if you get hair grass or some fast growing plant that spreads by substrate runners the Oscar will try to move the carpet but just end up tearing out chunks. so i guess you could keep hair grass just be aware you will need to replant/despose of chunks of it.

Get the plants with the plant growing out of it they shouldnt be able to move it

I'd try a large amazon sword . . . if possible, find one that is already potted, and then put the whole thing -- pot and all -- into the tank and bury it well. then place some rock around the sword, preferably some flat rocks with large (3"+) diameter . . . no guarantees the Oscars still won't rip up the leaves, but it will make it much harder for them to uproot the plant

you could also try some onion plants (crinums) . . . they are tough as nails, easy to plant (and replant), and since they taste awful, fish tend not to eat them

lastly, you could try anubias; tie them down to heavy rocks and/or driftwood; you can use fishing line. they are very tough, Oscars won't eat them, and if you tie them down properly, they won't be able to pull them off the rocks either

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice guys! I'll just have to try a couple things and see if I will be lucky enough to get a pant or two to survive.
