Our 270g Google Tank Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have to say great build. A few things come to mind though.

Just makes me a little nervous seeing water and electronics so close. I guess with the water changing pipe you don't have much choice in where to run it. But your back up power supply in the same enclosure as your sump is going to have problems. Even though you have taken precautions there will be humidity and condensation which won't mix with the APC. I think your best bet is to somehow get that back up relocated somewhere else. Just my $0.02. :)

That's actually a great idea. See below and I was in the process of moving the UPS. I think I will do your idea and move it outside the tank. At least that way I can easily check on the battery and not worry too much about the water. Thanks.

I decided to move the battery backup to the left side of the tank. Now I will move it outside the tank like suggested. I changed out the power cords for the pumps and cleaned up the cables. I hung up the GFCIs so it's easier to get to in case it trips. Decided to put them after the battery so if the battery is in affect, we will still not get shocked.

Why doesn't my pictures show?

We started on the canopy. Wish we had more time to work on it but it started to rain.

The vertical and side beams are like that so we can install the brackets for the doors.

We inset the screws so everything lies flat.

The back side is just single and not L shaped just to save some weight. The top beams is where the lights will be installed.

Test fitting and it actually fits.

One thing I forgot to mention was that we saw a remote control outlets from Walmart. We bought one for the main pump and one for the water change pump. Now we don't have to crawl down to turn on/off the switches.

My wife Painted the frame with two coats of waterproof white stain that I found at Home Depot.

Made the lid in four pieces. It's like that so we can open the top all the way without it hitting the ceiling. I figured no need to paint the top of the lids because you can't see it and it shouldn't get wet.

Going to install the lights and wiring today.
