I just bought an oyster toadfish and was told it may or may not be venomous. Doe's anyone know if it is? So far all I can see on it is it can cause injury from handling them.

I've never heard of them being venomous. I've had 4 and never had any problems with them. They have a nasty looking set of teeth though.

Do you know how big they get? I have him in a 55 along with an albino moray and am thing of adding another eel gymnothorax tile and a red scat. the moray I currently have had about ayear now is an edchinda rhodilicus if I am spelling it correctly.

Mine is about 6 in. My only concern is just how wide they get rather than length. i have a decoration in my tank that I got from Pet Smart that the toadfish hides under and my eel hides just above him inthe upper chamber. Depending on how wide he will grow he may out grow it. I bought a log ornamate that so far I have not seen either go under.

Yeah, they're pretty cool. Here's a pic of one of my smaller ones. I ended up releasing them back in the bay that I caught them from when I deployed. Figured they'd only die with my wife watching them.

hey most toadfish are poisonous so dont touch him

Yes they are venemous.. I had one too but never handled it directly. The three spines on it's head / back have venom in the tips. It's not enough to kill you but I read it can make your arm numb for up to 48 hours.. I guess it depends on the size of the toadfish..
