Pierced fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have to agree with jcardona, this isnt any crueler than fishing, feeding feeders, eating meat or even wearing coloured clothes. Though i wouldnt even think of doing this to any of my fish.
The human being is the most cruel species in the world, people seem to forget that often.

After reading this whole thread i'm actually quite surprised by some of the answers, and for people that compare a fish getting a piercing to a human getting a piercing that just seems wrong...

I mean think about it this way, Humans, have a choice to have it done to themselves on their own will... where as i doubt a fish would CHOOSE to have its lip pierced... not to mention, after watching the video of the oscars with lip piercing, it just looks uncomfortable... to me it looks no different to a fish having a hook hanging/dangling out of its mouth, except it will never come out...

Also, i wonder what they have to do to the fish to get the piercing through... since i doubt they can just grab the fish and stick the piercing through without having to handle the fish in some stressful way...

I'm surprised by how vacuous most of the arguments in this thread are.

You can get your childrens' ears pierced when they are too young to be able to decide for themselves, and those who are old enough to choose only do it because it is the social norm.

Piercing a fish is bad, but what about a baby?

The reason for piercing is the same for both

My take only (live and let live I always say, so do what you like - as long as its within societies rules and regs):

1. Piercing should be reserved for boils and other such skin troubles, and chicken chunks and beef and seafood and vegetable cubes on a skewer for the bar-b-q.

2. The only reason I wear clothes is to hide my general shame and to protect against to cold, otherwise, what's the point? Fashion? what? why? I guess all these things make the ladies look nice...

Piercing fish is the last thing I thought i'd ever read about. seriously! The world is such an interesting place.

Here's my opinion...

This debate is all about where to draw the line. Piercing a fish certainly isn't as bad for it as fishing, but being as we approve of that, are we being hypocritical when we say no?

Personally, I'm all for survival fishing. It's completely natural, being as a man's gotta eat. On the other hand, I'm totally against sport fishing. Sure, it does bring attention to aquatic conservation, but don't public aquariums do that? In addition, it can't really help that much: hunting for sport does nothing for zoology, as native animals (and fish) are not perceived to require much protection.

With that in mind, I am against piercing fish. Not only does it take away from the natural beauty--the metal itself is incredibly distracting--but it gives the fish pain, or at least an uncomfortable pressure point. (In my opinion, different fish have different levels of pain competency, but that's irrelevant.)
I disagree with uncomfortable pressure point, i have both my ears and belly button pierced after they healed, I couldn't feel them at all. Hell I forget that i have my belly pierced sometimes cause i can't feel it at all, so there really wouldn't be an uncomfortable pressure point after it is done healing the fish wouldn't feel it

I agree with the pressure point bull plop... I have double piercing in both ears and my eleventh finger pierced as well, I have removed the rings from my ears recently because I have started taking BJJ classes. But once everything is healed you can barely tell you have metal through you skin.

That doesn't mean what I think it does, does it?
