What water conditioner do you use? If any?
Have had brown spots on my grass where I drained aquarium water using prime, wonder if it had traces of ammonia in it or maybe aquarium salt. Was awhile back so don't remember other variables exactly, just recall grass dying in that spot.

Great thread.

Any updated results based on adding fish
if you're talking about a specific situation i'm not sure what your referring to. But I have this in my 2 tanks, and I don't even have nitrate in my tanks anymore. Actually just got back from a month long vacation and tested the water after a month of no waterchanges. Everything was perfect.

I've had pothos in my tank for a while now just hanging in the still water... and it didn't die, but it didn't grow really, so it didn't really help my nitrates. After reading this I'm realizing that water movement is a key part. For my glass tank the solution was easy, pull an ac110 out the closet and throw some plants in there. Right now it has some pothos, a peace lily, and Nephthytis "Butterfly" which is a plant with arrow shaped leaves like some of the ones pictured earlier. For my acrylic tank though, there is no room for a HOB, so I point the outlet of my FX5 and the outlet of the pump in my sump towards the plant roots, do you guys think this will work or do I need to build a box/buy a planter?

I have a dozen+ Pothos clippings hanging over the edge of my 110g. They are growing like crazy. The spray bar from my Eheim 2078 keeps the surface water agitated so I guess I just lucked out not knowing that water circulation is key.

From this post I also have some mint in the tank and so far it seems to be doing quite well.

My eventual plan is for an external planter box remotely located in a sunny window instead of just hanging over the edge of the tank.

The outlet to my marineland C220 is what circulates the water in mine, and it works great.

Not sure if this has been asked already or not but do you guys think a UV sterilizer will affect the plant growth?
