i loved this thred so much i built a hudro system and it works great no algie eather the plants eat all the nitrates up.

Great looking plant setups.

I recognize Coleus, African Mask (Colocasia sp.), and some type of Caladium in the pic, above.

Joee, that African Mask do OK with it's roots wet all the time? It's a neat plant and I always wondered about that.

elephant ears are on the right the only problem i have had is that the roots grow at such a rate they have clogged the system twice, also most ferns do very well in the lower light area's

This summer I have slacked ROYALLY on water changes for the 160 in the garage. I think I went 6-8 weeks of neglect. Fish looked great never did test the water. Building a 314gal atm so I have yet again another fricken plant holder to make for that monster. The turtles are gonna go in the current tank once the fish are swapped out so they will keep the current tier but I might eliminate the 10gallon tank, not sure yet, mainly I need room for the basking light on one side. Once I figure all this crap out of course I will be posting pics in my favorite thread

Subscribed-Awesome Thread. Plant filtration has always been one of the main stables of my system. I have 13 stingrays,2 golden gar and a handful of other fish. I feed about 1lb of food daily. It's all based on hydroponics. You must filter out the heavy particulate matter so the roots don't clog but after that the plants are the main work force to keep the water clean. Many people farm lettuce this way. A simple search shows most hydroponic farms don't do any water changes at all and rely on the fish to feed the plants.

My tank is in my basement, why I dont have pothos or anyother plants ontop of my tank is because all the lights except the tank leds are off allday, they would never grow. I am starting to plant java fern and amazon sword in my tank, the fern on rocks and wood and the sword in the gravel. So both the water and the gravel is being cleaned by my plants. I think not alot of people have planted tanks is because their monsters tear them up !!

I have aros (top swimmers) and piranhas both will leave plants on the bottom of the tank alone ! Im just begining to experiment now tho !
