Papaya is good stuff.. well the red ones anyway. They grow mini orange trees along with mini lemons and other tree in Australia with aquaponics

around here pawpaw is "Indiana bananas". I don't know if they are in the same family as papaya, but the ones on my grandparents property do border a creek so I wonder if they would do just as good hmmm...

One question i have is how are the plants anchored in there? Im thinking of taking a few hobs and putting a sponge then some bio media, maybe even gravel, to put plants roots in and the water flow through that

in the video they show that the smaller trees hole themselves up, as they get bigger they are tied off to something else.

So, a quick question. I know I've seen a few of you using plastic liner (see visqueen) to line your grow beds. What thickness have you been using? Have you experienced any issues? I have some 6 mil I am planning on using for my project.

I started a new plant tank! A 33 long. I'm excited to get back to smaller tanks as well and plant filtration. For now it is sponges while things settle and figure out how I want to mount this guy from one of the ray tanks.

Well I am finally getting mine back up. The grow bed is a bit narrower that I wanted but its sufficient.. 8' long 21" wide, 11" deep when filled.. only partially filled.

I love this thread and spent many hours reading through it (not even finished but it's late haha).

I have been doing this ever since I was into aquariums (25 years at least, on and off), and always threw the pothos type plants in there.
Except I would always cut pieces at an angle off my parents house plants.
They would always grow massive roots and grow very long.
It seems they do not require much lighting at all, sometimes it would grow behind the tank in the darkness and would always be plump and a healthy green, always.

Now that I'm back into the hobby, and have a 120 gallon in my bedroom, i have added some succulents to my closed off overflow. After a week a few are showing roots (they were cut under the 2nd node at an angle), even one that dislodged and floating has grown a root, i may leave it alone to see if it'll turn into a floating succulent.

Here you can see the succulents on the overflow, i used twisty ties to secure them. Ignore the floating aquarium plants, they're now planted

mother plants variety of succulents

I do want to try a variety of other types of plants other than pothos and succulents.

Will update when it happens :)
