Platinum blood parrot

Bought 3 of these a few months ago , two have noticable hump on head and one not much at all, was told platinum parrots. Pretty unique looking fish, I have them with Africans and they do well. Not sure what they are mixed with to get this look, assuming hybrid??

So i came across this little tank today. About 4" i have never seen one in person. I was in the market for a parrot for my step daughter but once i saw this guy i knew he was mine instead lol.

Blood parrots are all hybrids. They just vary in color, it's not often that you'll have platinums born but it is possible. BP's tend to be very good parents so they tend to have most fry survive to sellable size. As for the reason 2 have koks while 1 doesn't is probably due to different Gene's being used from their Midas ancestors. It could also be that ya ended up with 2 males and 1 female as males tend to be the ones that grow a kok on their head but not always.

When ever ya have a hybrid specie you can have almost any combination of Gene's from their original ancestors. But just like any other mainstream hybrids, they have been breed religiously for certain traits to the point where they could be considered their own unique specie rather then a combination of several different species.

As mentioned earlier in this thread this is just a shortbody leucistic convict. Not related to BP’s or a hybrid at all. Just a genetic mutation.

Ahh yeah I must not have read that far in then. Makes sense tho taking a second look at it tho. Still a nice looking fish. Lol i know convicts around here don't sell at all so I'm kind of curious if these ones would actually sell or not, and if so how much they could potentially be worth. Even if it's not much it might be worth investing in a pair at some point.

From what I’ve seen they do and at high price because they can be marketed as exotic parrots because of the shortbody look.

Makes sense, I mean it's not like most ppl really want to shell out allot of money for a convict. Still not right that they label em as something they aren't just to make more $ off of em.
Kind of reminds me of the polar blue parrots. They aren't actually parrots they are just regular convicts with the short body Gene and they just so happen to have the same general body shape as a BP. The only major difference is the price tag they get, $20-25 for a short body compaired to $2-4 for a regular convict.

Same basic kind of thing just a slightly different specie. Makes sense tho, HRP's do look nicer imo. They have the same basic look of a convict just with a bit of added color.

Definitely a mutation of HRP. I have both the blue and just picked a couple of these platinum ones up. They are almost the same colour as my pair of leucistic HRP. I did an experiment breeding the polar blue to blue and leucistic HRP and then to pink and black convicts.

With both convicts was a mostly black convict with blue hues in the fins. Bred those offspring back to the father and was 50% blue HRP looking fry and 50% black convicts with HRP shaped bodies. No pink/leucistc.

With the blue HRP 100% blue fry very few roundbodies but all the rest looked like HRP. Offspring bred back to father produced all blue HRP. Leucistic produced about 25% leucistic and 75% blue. All looked HRP to me.

Only reason I was breeding was to get a leucistic roundbody, never did get one lol then I saw some in Calgary and had to get a couple. If you keep the pink convict and leucistic HRP you'll also notice the HRP is brighter.
