1 10" jardini
1 10" royal pleco
1 10" tiger oscar
2 4-5" red parrots

all eat pellets or krills no live fishes

which do you guys perfer
playsand/pool sand

just want to know from personal experience pros/cons

thanks :nilly:

heard a lot of good thing about Pool sand, it doesn't trap waste. I have lots of the aquarium sand so i have not bothered with the pool sand, but i have a friend who swears by them.

I'm curious about this as well. I wanted to use play sand but I was afraid of any contaminants.

i asked the same question. with pool filter sand it's a lot more coarse than play sand so nothing gets trapped if you have anything stirring up the waste. i guess play sand supposedly causes clumps that trap anaerobic pockets of chemical matter that are harmful to fish.

i'm using playsand right now but i give it a good sifting every now and again to keep it nice and clean and, i have to say, it's pretty decent to use.

WARNING: washing play sand is a total pain in the @$$. lol

pool filter sand is better for a lot of reasons IMO....its heavier and settles faster when disturbed. since its heavier it makes for easier vacuuming since it wont get sucked into the vac. (or your filter intakes) Its also very cheap (10 bucks for 50 lb. bag in my area) and looks cooler its a lighter white color then playsand which is more dirty brown.

heres a pic not good phone pic but you get the idea

Most pool filter sand is sterilized also, and play sand isnt to my understanding.

In every thread on the matter, people will say pool filter sand is better than playsand. Between the two, I have only used playsand. Overall it was fine, but it is so light that it will easily get kicked up into the water column and possibly kill any power filter. With all the discussion on the matter, it is clear that pool filter sand is the best option between the two.

Thats rude. If you are not going to be helpful to people who are looking for answers and just be rude and spiteful you do not need to be on this forum. If you are already dogging on people and looking at your post count, your not going to last long.
