i think im going to have 3 12" evenly spaced top braces, along with 3 more laying across the bottom in the same manner as the top, just on the bottom, get

3/4" plywood braces


3/8" thick glass sounds good

The 3/8ths sounds good enough...
And as far as your braces I'd go 1- 12'' wide, 3/4" thick, centered and glassed. Then go with 4" wide on the rest of the top edge.... It will be fine...
Remember the fiberglass is going to be way stronger than the wood itself. Together they will be bomb-proof...:headbang2

reffering to the pic above zennzzo, the 4" trim, should that be screwed on top of the tank or in it, like the 12" middle brace would be?




here is a little more elaborate idea, that i want to scrap. just a thought though

Make it out of a single piece and you could put it right on top...remember the fiberglass is where most of your strenght will be...
