do you know if it's okay for rays? does it make the water cloudy like sand?
i think its okay to use this for rays. it doesn't cloud the water if you rinse it well enough. but if you separate or sift the sand from the small pebbles, at first it will cloud the water but after the sand settles, it will just be as clear.

well im not sure how well it will work with rays i know my florite (not sand) if i pull up a plant or move it dust does come up not enough to fill the tank but enough to see it settles quick but im not sure if a ray going through it constantly will make it constantly cloudy but im sure sooner or later all the dust will be removed

yeah thats what i was thinking too. hopefully if i give it a really good rinse before hand it should not be too much of a problem. I talked to a guy at my LFS about it and he said it should be fine. (they sell it there) I was also worried about the possibility that it would scratch up my rays bellies, but i felt some in a tank and it's really not much harder or sharper than gravel (which I have seen plenty of rays living on)

I decided to go another direction with my tank. Although I haven't committed totally yet, this is where it is.....

I decided to take out the rock wall on the left and all the big rocks and go back to a simpler set up. I split the really big plant on the right in half and dispersed it throughout the tank. It seems to be thriving. I'm using a liquid fert and doing once a week water changes.

I took out the bubbles and finally got rid of the remainder of the "duck weed" :irked:

The T5 set up I have going seems to be working great, everything I put in the tank grows seemingly overnight. I really have to pay attention to my trimming or else the tank is overrun with plants.

here's my planted tank about 2-3 weeks in.
still working on getting stuff in there.
my tiger lotus is huge though 22 leaves and shoots some up almost everyday.
I'm also thinking of doing a moss wall backdrop

Rays and planted tanks are not a good mix. Rays and flourite are a bad mix, it will scratch their bellies.
