predatory fish fort a 50 gallon

There’s lots, are you looking for a single fish, a group of fish, active or lurker?
as a catfish kid i'd suggest a gulper catfish. keep in mind their lazy. or maybe a small school of exodons
what are the dimensions of the 50 gallon tank? Most predatory fish that I can think of get too large eventually for a 36" tank which is a standard 50's length. But there are some I can think of that would fit; like Ctenopoma (leaf fish), african butterfly fish, dwarf crenicichla pike cichlids. Your water chemistry (hardness and pH) will also play a part in what you can personally keep in the tank.
Gulped will get way too big for a standard 55 gallon. Most are only 48" long.
Gulper cats get 12-14". I know they grow slow but I don't think that's a good choice for a 50g honestly. I was thinking exodons too but again 50 may be to small for a group large enough to disperse the aggression.
What about a sa leaf fish or a pair of dwarf cichlids?
It’s rare for a gulper to outgrow a 55g my gulper lives in a 50g and he rarely see’s the other side of the tank?
They don't move much I will give you that but it's always better to have an oversized tank so they can atleast turn around.
There are small puffer fish/ambush puffer fish like the dragon puffer fish.
As mentioned before, smaller pike cichlids (ones under the 8 inch mark)
African butterfly fish (as mentioned earlier)
smaller species of sunfish/panfish
a large school of tiger barbs
Convict cichlid
or axolotls just to name a few.
