What you can do is make a divider out of egg crate and use it to keep him on one side of the tank while you clean the other side. That way you don't have to net him out and you can keep him on one side of the tank with the lids. Finish one side, replace the lids, let the divider down so he can scoot to the other side and repeat.
While you are cleaning, don't make sudden movements. Watch to see if he reacts badly to certain equipment. My RTG freaks when he sees the magnetic glass cleaner so I use it very slowly.
You can also drain the normal amount of water you normally change out before you clean the tank. That way, he'll be that much farther from being able to jump out. Then refill the tank once you're done cleaning.
