Preventing Arowana Jumps

What you can do is make a divider out of egg crate and use it to keep him on one side of the tank while you clean the other side. That way you don't have to net him out and you can keep him on one side of the tank with the lids. Finish one side, replace the lids, let the divider down so he can scoot to the other side and repeat. :)

While you are cleaning, don't make sudden movements. Watch to see if he reacts badly to certain equipment. My RTG freaks when he sees the magnetic glass cleaner so I use it very slowly.

You can also drain the normal amount of water you normally change out before you clean the tank. That way, he'll be that much farther from being able to jump out. Then refill the tank once you're done cleaning.

you can hand feed him so he wil get used to you , my arowana is not afraid of me and just swims by when i'm cleaning my tank . he is used to me .

in case you have a jumper( if you have an arowana that like's to jump and the handfeeding is unsucces ful)
get yourself a net make hooks on the stabelizer strips and attach the net to the hooks ( make it easy removebel ) so next he wil jump he wont damage himself.

a big tank is nessery and good food and alot and alot of current .

the reasen of the hand feeding is that they now they get food from you and wil not go searching after food . and feed them reguraly .

srr for the bad englich . greets

you have to expect them to jump at some point, it's their nature behavior. 1 thing i notice is they rarely ever jump in total darkness ( who would .. when you can't see what you're trying to get ) :)

Silvers aro born natural jumpers. They jump for food just like we walk upright. Having a sturdy wooden lid will prevent them from jumping out of the tank. As for removing the fish to clean the tank....... just a huge load of crap!

Having a sturdy lid only prevents them from getting out of the tank. It does not prevent them for jumping. Maybe you did not understand the question:screwy: See the hi lighted below

Alot of talk has gone to building bigger and better lids for you tank, but has anyone discovered any way to stop them from jumping in the first place?

Obliviously, don't scare them. I have 9" silver, and when it comes to cleaning the tank, I net my arowana and put it in a bucket. This is nerve racking and I don't think he likes it either.

Has anyone found a technique for keep them in the tank? Light from below? Play heavy metal? Use green light? ....

i have my arowans in a tank that stands very high.I put a much lower tank across from the arowanas and this seems to keep them down. They are constantly drooling over the 50 silver dollars across from them.I also can rub my arows heads at cleaning time. They will get use to you in time.

Can I ask you to walk with your hands? I'm saying aros will jump because it's their nature. Silvers are especially good jumpers. Some will get accustom to tank life while other won't. There's no way you can stop a jumpy aro unless you're willing to keep them in only 10 inches of water. Then, they won't have a chance to jump. :naughty:
