I pay some 10 cents a peice! That's criminal! So IMO set up a breeder box out of an aquarium that they can't climb out of. I use soil sand and coconut fiber substrate. I throw in vegetation for food and a water bowl with a sponge in it to help them escape. They are food for my bearded dragons. I don't add the crickets to my BD tank because I don't want strays to breed in there. Crickets will chew on your critters causing discomfort. However in a tree frog situation the frogs would most likely be safer on the glass vs a BD on a log! My cricket tank substrate is dry sand at one end and moist mixture on the other end. They breed like convicts! For me it's way cheaper but you're probably rich (lol). Don't know if this helps...good luck though!!!

Forgot to add... The breeder box you're inquiring about is only $14 give it a try! I throw my BDs right in the feeder box and babysit them for a few then return them to their tank.

Crickets are hellish to try and raise. They always escape, somehow, smell foul, and take a lot of maintenance. Either buy them, or breed an alternative such as feeder roaches (Blaptica dubia - not the pest kind).

I've tried several times to breed crickets, and each one ends with the place stinking, or going mouldy, or both. Not worth the effort imo unless you're doing it on a massive scale. For a few tree frogs, one box of crickets a week would probably suffice :)

I agree - you aren't going to be feeding on a massive scale so you don't really need to breed. You're gonna have a few frogs - that's not going to get rid of hundreds of crickets. I have had the same experience with breeding as Paul. It always ends with no babies and a lot of odor. I also can't stand the chirping, but that might just be me. I rather shell out 10 cents a piece than deal with crickets 24/7.

Ah... okay. I was gonna put them In my garage so that the sound smell and escapes don't get back in. However... I see why that wouldn't work during the summer... the garage would get too hot and cook them...

if you can deal with culturing crickts hats off to you, everyone i have talked to has said dubia roaches changed their life when it come to herps ;)
