If one views evolution as being a single file line with one creature giving birth to the one beside it that is a fraction of a percent different until it can no longer be considered the same creature then that means the egg came first.
It's much easier than that Brian. The egg did indeed come first, about 150 million years before the chicken. Reptiles were about and they laid eggs. Birds didn't come about until a long long time after. Simple really.
