question about black piranhas

Keep in mind that shipping is going to be about $50(+/-) extra on top of the price of the fish. Good thing is that Pedro and the people at AS are pro's at packaging and rarely is there shipping problems. 99% of the online fish buyers out there have never had a problem...some day I'll take the plunge I guess.

yeah i know aquascape is good. thats where i got my alligator gar (the one that just jumped out of the tank) from. fish came in mint condition!!! was eating rosie reds 6 hrs out of the box! shipping was 40 bucks. i was just using it as an example. i might order from there but i just wanted to mainly ask about the different areas they were found and if they were all the samething. tango, if you order online dont be afraid of aquascape. i ordered my fish, they told me the times when the fish would get here. i picked one of the times, it it came in right around that time. fish was packaged good. the delivery guy had the box upside down even and the fish was still mint. lol ah ok, i got what you are saying about the powerhead. ive got two filters that produce a little current in the tank. otherwise i have a pondmaster 190 pump i could throw in there if needed. im still thinking abotu what to get. i dont think i can find another alligator gar this time of yr so i think its between a rhom or maybe a wolffish (which aquascape has also) i think i have the foods down for a black rhom. (now when i go to the sea food place and get fillets for my alligator snapping turtle i can pick stuff up for a piranha too. haha) and pellet foods too. what about temps? upper 70s low 80s?

Use your disgression on temps, the higher the temp, the more active your rhom will be, the lower the temps the less active he'll be. I think mine are usually somewhere between 75 and 82 degrees. and they both do well.

Be careful that his tail doesn't get stuck in the filter or powerhead intakes, that's very dangerous to any size fish that can't get out!!

yeah, thats a good tip. i dont think either filter is that strong (thats why i got both on) but if i put the pond pump in there then it will be a dif story.

here is another question. how messy are these fish? i know when small that they must be by themselves, but as it gets larger ive seen them with other fish that are too small for it to waste its time on. do any of you guys do that? i would assume having a school of little fish (danios? cardnial tetras, ?) would help clean the tank by eating any small scraps/particals that are floating around int he tank after a meal. small bottom feeders be good too to keep the bottom cleans? plecos?

I know it can be done with pygos, I'm not at all sure about rhoms, but, as I've said before, you never know till you try!! I'm sure on occasion one of your little fish will indeed come up missing, but that's to be expected with any large fish/small fish combo.

I would go with invertebrates to clean the bottom of the tank, ghost shrimp (if quarentined properly) are actually beneficial if your rhom decides to snack on them, and they're easy and cheap to replace if he does.
