So after giving up on getting cutteri for my breeding project, I decided to go with rainbows. They were my second choice. I was having a hard time finding any for sale that were large enough to sex, so I went with a 10 pack of juvies for $15. My problem is I bought a 30 gallon for a pair I thought I would find. So my options for now are to grow them all out in the 30, then sell off or rehome the other 8 if/when a pair forms, or take my best guess at gender and put those 2 in the 30 and the rest in a 75 with a 2” buttikoferi (I know, I’m getting him a bigger tank in 6-8months) for a little bit and see if any pair up. The rainbows are in the 1-1.5” range. Which option should I go with or what are some other options.

Personally I would just dump em all in the 30g, increase water changes once they start getting larger and once a pair form just re-home the rest. Once they hit 2-2.5in they should start pairing off.

That’s the direction I was leaning, just wasn’t sure if being that crowded would stop them from pairing, thanks

O yeah they should still pair up. They're pretty much just like convicts. The pair will pair up and bully the other fish in the tank.

Oh ok, ya convicts will breed anywhere. This is a new species for me. For some reason they’re hard to find here, guess that might be good for me tho.

I had to go to eBay for these, not something I like to do, but 10 for $15 vs $12 each for unsexed juvies at other online sites was a no brainer. Seller had ? feedback, so should be good.
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of eBay lol. Too risky for me imo. Lol of course I don't have pay pal or visa so I can't order from there anyways.

This is my third time, first two went ok, but I check their feedback and if they have an actual online store outside of eBay, I have had issues with eBay buying other non fish stuff tho

Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of buying fish online unless it's from a reputable company or dealer. Granted I've also used Craigslist but still very iffy on that site.
