Here's my pair of rainbows. The male's around 3" and the female's a little under 2.5". I kept these outside for the summer in a tub pond and moved them indoors around late august/early september. They've only bred once indoors and I never exactly figured out where their fry went. They just laid eggs again so hopefully these will do better than the last batch. Right now their in a 55 gal guppy colony with 4 bristlenose plecos(trying to breed).
The rainbows didn't breed in the aquarium until it started getting cool outside. When it the temp outside started dropping into the seventies i put a heater in the tank which increased the temp to around 80. (They bred the next day) That was three and a half weeks ago.

Wow that's pretty nice, I've always wanted some of these.

One of my Favorites. Nice job!

Love these little guys

In nature (in their Costa Rican habitat) Herotilapia often spawn in shallow pools of seasonal floodplains where night time temps drop to 60'F and day temps of up to 100'F.
There is a great article about them on cichlidae.com by Paul Loiselle called "Those Other Central American Cichlids - Part One Herotilapia multispinossa"
