I think my recent catch is a rare fish as I cant find any info for this special adonis

a native fish for some people. imagine a tank full of these. I use to catch these in Toronto near the Niagara Falls, but I believe they are more common down South where its warmer!

I know this post is from a while ago, but does anyone know the species name for this fish? Or is it just a variation of the blue ear sunfish? Either way its awesome. P.S. I hope nowone has asked this yet.

I'm guessing Lates microlepis, I need to find the reference book for this genus. As they're distinguished by the shape of their tails, square, round, and forked.
