would it be possible to keep 1 RB piranha in a tank with other fish? i have done some research that mainly points out that piranha are brave only in shoals. so would it be safe to put 1 piranha with other fish or is it just to risky?

nothing safe with piranha...piranha have the teeth like shark. very strong jaw, and very unpredictable. Even piranha with piranha are not safe. they can tolerate each other, however they can eat and kill each other as well.

so no for your question.

Yeah could be a risk...but the main thing is what type of fish are you trying to put the RB with. I can name some fish that would kill the piranha especially since they hunt and eat them in the wild. Then certain fish would not go well with piranhas. Most cichlids like to lip lock when they fight, and well their jaws and teeth dont match up to the piranhas, so he would easily probably take their lips off. Now how big is the piranha and how big are the fish you are putting him with. I would put him with fish his size and larger and nothing that would want to lip lock with him. I mean all fish are different and certain situations are possible to create that go against the norm. I hope this helps.

save your time and money..don't even consider of ANY fish. just don't do it. does matter other fish are aggressive or not.

Well hes only talking about 1 RBP, so I can name quite a few fish that one RBP would not pose a threat to. I could see if he was talking about a group of RBP's but just one. RBP's are for the most part skittish and probably more skittish alone, and they are not the only fish with a mean bite and SHARP teeth. I would say it all depends on the fish you are talking about, as long as you realize no one would ever be able to fully predict the outcome, fish have minds of their own.

I have a solo RBP and have tried many dither fish in the past and everything has eventually been killed, which will be the case with any P. It may last for hours, days, months but everything else will eventually be killed.

how caome nobady has said anything about him keeping a solo rbp?

its stupid. in the wild, they live in shoals that are made up of dozens of fish. having just one piranha is like having one neon tetra. the fish won't live as long, will have lots of disease from stress, and will be more prone to attacking smaller fish.

if you read some sort of RELIABLE webpage or book, i wouldn't have had to explain this to you.:screwy:
