I don't know why members would hate MFK. What is there to hate?

I don't know how this turned into a modding fx5 thread. There is one already that I linked too in my previous posts.

The Fx5 is a nice filter but its not as good as it could be. With mods you can make it hold just as much or MORE bio media as the Pro3. I have about 13.5L in my Fx5. You will have almost 200GPH more flow than the pro3, over 200 cubic inch MORE mechanical surface area than the pro3. No need for power heads because the flow from the Fx5 can be divided into 2 250-300 GPH nozzels. So the flow is better than the Ehiem Pro3 which in long tanks with the pro3 you may need a power head to help with circulation.
I just want to fix something. above....

The Ehiem just can't be as good as the Fx5, learn to live with it!

I have conferred with Hagen on the subject of the small plastic tube at the top of the lid. They inform me that this tube is designed to act as a conduit between trapped air and the effluent stream. The trapped air rises to the highest point within the canister and is then drawn into the effluent stream as it passes by the white connector. So, the plastic tube transfers air from the underside of the lid into the passing effluent. Many FX5 threads have dealt with the presence of bubbles in the water returning to the tank. This would appear to be normal and reflects the escape of trapped air from the canister. Not sure why the FX5 has a predisposition to trap air, but that's the scoop.

Sounds like a BS comment to me. Hagen seems to be good at that. The filter does not work like that at all and through testing proves it doesn't.

Air does rise to the top and escape through the tube but thats only while the pump is OFF. WHile the pump is on, what is forced through the tube back into the filter. WHich is why they have a "ramp" on the cover to force the flow down ward.

The micro bubbles problem comes from impeller cavitation and does not in any way reflect onto the purge tube design. Since these bubbles only appear when the filter is clogged and after the system has been fully purged.

Opened up my modded FX yesterday, still no need for cleaning. Have cleansed the other fx twice meanwhile. They are both in use in the same tank, a 540l. lots off "uneaten" food in the original fx, none in the other, smelled good 2 :)
