Hey Guys I have a couple questions, I have a fluval flex 32.5 gallon. I recently had the chance to buy rio ampiacu apistos. I bought 2 confirmed beautiful males and 4 females three confirmed female, one may possibly be a sleeper male but is looking more female than male and even if that’s the case I would have essentially three pairs Worst case. I also have in the tank 11 neon tetra and for the corys I have C125 aspiradora, which I have 11 and got auction. The tank is beautiful and lots rock work and nooks and crannies and I also additional have two apistogramma caves in addition their too. So there are lots of hiding spots. Also the tank is heavily planted too. With Val, crypts, and tiger lily. now I have kept apistos in the past but, I would like to know the care requirements for these guys. The rio ampiacu. Because I cannot find anything online about them so any info on them like full mature color maily and possibly collection point for them Also I want to know the main question are they a natural strain of apistogramma, being rio ampiacu purple and not manipulated in a lab it appears so but want to ask. And anything else here are pictures of the tank where I bought them from also I will have pictures of my tank too.

thanks stephen

What do you mean?

i found, this A.bitaeniata 'Rio Ampiyacu' is that what mine are?

Looks like a nice tank and nice fish. Regarding id'ing, various close-up pictures (different positions) of the Apistogramma woud be needed. General pictures of the aquarium don't show the fish in question in sufficient detail or focus.

"Rio Ampiacu" is the locality/approximate collection point, though they're often thrown around merely as a marketing term, and are difficult to confirm at best.

Have dealt with one too many false collection points to really bother, honestly- many collectors will collect nearby a popular locale to give some merit to their labels, or mix up males and females from vastly different locales, or just toss a generic one on for marketing, even if the given locale has little geographic relevance to the collection point. Either way, wild-caughts from a specific locale shouldn't be mixed with others unless origin is confirmed to be the same, IMO.

Pretty sure "sp. "Purple"" is cf. ortegai "Pebas", a rather common import.
Six is far too many for a 30G; I wouldn't do any more than a pair- they bicker often and aggression will be a majour long-term issue. Had a pair fight frequently in a 75G.
Rather hardy fishes; they take frozen foods and some high-quality dry foods well. Easy to spawn, too, if given sole ownership of a tank and soft water. Your tank doesn't seem to have very many plants and sight-breaking/disrupting structures, which may prove problematic in the long run; large botanicals and random wood chunks would be more beneficial than rockwork as well. Aspidoras prefer high flow, which the Apistos do not, though ortegai seems to handle it better than, say, abacaxis. Neons as dithers will not go too well long-term if the overall intent of keeping them is to spawn them. Water should be reasonably soft, with a TDS on the lower end of the spectrum, especially if you'd like a spawn, but fairly neutral water seems to be alright with these guys.
The fish in the photos are wild caught; not sure what you mean by "manipulated in a lab" as I am not aware of any 'modified' colour strains aside from those resulting from selective breeding done by hobbyists and perhaps a few farms. They may or may not all be cf. ortegai, but at the very least, some of them look similar enough to be that species. Caudal striations and markings are throwing me off a bit, but I have little experience with Apisto ID to come to any certain conclusion.
The experts at Apistogramma.com can and will likely offer better advice and info.

Ok sounds good thank you reason I started with six is hoping them to pair off. Also reason I said manipulated in a lab was meaning selective breeding. Because I only like natural strains not manmade. So that’s what I was asking was if man has interferred with these guys.
