Roach's Fishroom Nest

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bought some new fish mostly rasboras, danios and barbs.

Got a new anubius lanceolata.
20241123_143711(0).jpg

got a few more panda garra growing out.
20241014_211718.jpg20241014_211813.jpg

In the main panda garra tank, this black and red blur is becoming the bane of my existence. The sharks have become relentless chasing everything and anything. I need to remove all rocks to catch them in the different tanks. Once they are out, i can add the smaller panda garra in too.

Discovered some anchor worms on the adult garra. Been checking for the past few days and they seem to have come off. Don't see anymore on them. But will need to clean glass for a clearer view. And when redoing tank, I make put them in a smaller container for a closer look.

Also need to catch these fish eventually to redo the tanks. Getting an itch to switch
things around.20241017_233746.jpg

The rainbows have grown in nicely.

For the time being guppy females I want to keep are growing out in here. They will get their own tank after the switch arounds happen.

Passed a group fishing in the stream near my place and stopped to check what they were fishing. Asked some questions but they didn't know much. A lot of invasive species. There are less and less natives in this area which is so sad to see. People throwing the aquarium fish into rivers. I am surprised they are surviving the cold spells we are having.

duanes duanes are your cichlid hawk eyes able to ID any of these?
I may decide to take a day during our upcoming Lunar New Year vacation and see how many different species I can catch and ID in this stream.

Finally repaired (or patched) the crack last month. Where I come from this is referred to as a Heath Robinson job., aka a Mickey mouse job, jerry-rigged, slapdash. Choose your saying.
I didn't need good looking as I am planning to cover the bottom in substrate. Just needed sharp edges and corners covered in silicone so I don't inadvertently cut myself one day.

Tried a bit of aquaponic growing. Was not very successful but didn't expect much with the cheap lights I use.

I keep 4 species of air plants above my tanks. For the first time in my life I have seen them flower. It was unexpected and I didn't even notice it starting. Love these and hope they bloom again.

But they grow into tanks when they are mature.

The sewellia all hanging around during feeding time.

I have had to remove the red tailed black shark. They are absolute A-holes when fully grown. I love them but don't like their crappy disposition.

The itch to switch finally became too much of a temptation. And of course, like many of you, I didn't decide to just change up one tank, I went and redid 5 of tjhe biggest tanks in the room. With my hectic new work schedule, a young family, and social commitments, it has been a bit slow.
The whole hillstream rack is getting a makeover as well as the paludarium and 75gal.
But........2 of the tanks in the hillstream rack have been converted so far. Just three more tanks to go. But I need to get rid of some fish first and am still waiting on some hardscape and other things to arrive so I can continue.

The middle tank on the rack after removing 4 huge 6 year old anubius nana plants. Lots of mulm in this tank and one of the reasons it was time to redo it. It has been 6 give or take so a change is refreshing, literally and metaphorically.

The anubius all grew from small rhizomes cut up with a few leaves.20250131_174941.jpg20250131_174633.jpg20250131_174831.jpg

In a temp holding tank until the others are setup and ready for plants. The tank is 90cm x 45cm x 35cm.

I had 6 of these at one point. 3 remain. And of those three. 2 are absolute A holes and all but put me off the species. The third is either a runt, or a male, as he is half the size of the other two. And also, way more placid being happy in a confined, stocked, 20gal holding tank sharing the bottom with many fish. I am likely going to keep him and put him in the new tank setups. You cans ee the traps I made to catch them in the tanks. I have caught every species of fish in the tank except the red tailed sharks. it's as if they can read and write.

The 75gal is all but empty. Even the 55gal paludarium getting a makeover. Everybody be getting one.

I decided while looking at other fishroom threads it is probably a lot easier to just update one thread with all DIY, breeding and other aquatic projects. I will also have a place to share pics of things that don't fit in other threads necessarily.

So here are some pics in no order just posting.

The fishroom as it grew

Added a stand for the 75gal and added the paludarium and cube. I also got more 10 gals on the first rack.
View attachment 1533089

Then I added a rack into the gap between racks with custom tanks. This was a mission.

The guppy breeding rack

So as it stands I have
30 tanks at home
3 tanks at work.

I have focused mostly on rheophilic species and tanks as well as guppies, especially speartails.

What brand off wire rack is that and what is the weight capacity on it. I am looking for something similar

None of them are wire racks. I don't find the sturdy enough. Well here at least.
These are often just called screwless shelves here. It's not a brand but rather a product sold by many retailers/wholesalers.
