Hi I currently upgraded my african tank from a 55g to my 125g, I filled it with fake plants and pots and a few rocks I had laying around. I want slowly take out whats in there now and to load it up with whichever rock i decide, for some good hiding place. Since I have mainly white sand I wanted to put a darker colored set of rocks.
so my question is : What are some different kind of rocks I can stock it with, the only one that comes to mind is red lava rock but its expensive as S*%T!!! So if you guys can post some different ideas with even some pics of your tanks with them in it, that would be cool.
thanks

here is what my tank currently looks like (cell phone pic) <-sorry

Fish:
blue johanni
2 yellow labs
brichardi
ngara flametail peacock
rusty cichlid
black calvus
2 jewl fish
pink peacock
spotted pleco
pictus cat
(pic taking in the morning fish were hiding)

Lace rock usually looks really nice. I used granite cobblestone from my local menard's. I can hand pick the pieces and get darker rocks as needed.

Here's a horrid picture of my current tankscape.

How big?

By buying larger boulders you can create larger caves. My mbuna are 4" and less. It's amazing the small places they can fit into :)

Smooth river stone from a garden or stone shop, with no sharps edges works best. And it's pretty cheap when bought by the pound.

ash54876 are you sure your rock is lace rock, I thought that was river rock and lace rock was covered in pits and holes?

oh wow , ha totally read your first post wrong, haha yea didnt have my coffee at that time yet lol

Yea looked at a few tanks loaded up with lace rock, I really like that look and they seem to come in great shapes, can really get imaginative with it. anyone have any lace rock tanks theyd like to show off, be my guest.. lol ; )
