Rope fish eating

I find with the smaller bichirs it’s easier to break pellet up but once it softens they will bite chunks off it anyway as long as they’re eating when small that’s the main thing

Yeah, I've heard it.

Another doubt I have about the rope fish feeding is how much do they eat.

As I said, its about 11" long..

I was thinking in the amount and maybe a piece of tilapia the size of a sinking pellet, cuted in very small pieces its ok.

Little pieces of fish such as bits of piranha, tilapia etc is good, cut pieces that are bite size and feed 2 or three of these chunks per feeding

Congrats with the ropefish, never had one cause they are more scape artist than a bichir, im afraid they will scape in my tank.

Just follow all the great pointers that everyone gave you and you’ll be fine.

Tks for helping!

Today I went to the LFS and talked to them. They're japanese and they really know a lot about. They told me to chill out and maybe the rope fish isnt settled already.

I'll keep the schedule for some days (pellets/day, shrimp/night and maybe frozen artemia). Soon or later it will work.

Yes, Im warned about the scapes :D

My tank is glass covered.

When I picked up in the LFS it was trying to escape already:D

Its a very interesting fish, as much as a poly. Very excited.

I can't think of anyone on MFK that keeps an adult ornate with ropes... where have you seen that? It will be fine for a while at these sizes, and miiight be OK long term but it is a big risk. Ropes are skinny and can be a tempting shape to a

Ropes can be pickier to eat pellets than other polys in my experience. I would only feed once per day (or many feed adults every other day) and try soaking the pellets you like in a bit of thawing bloodworm juice to make them more appealing at first. I personally would get them on pellets first before adding tilapia or other meaty foods like earthworms into the mix. Once they start eating them you're good to go. I find that mine always liked them a little softer, so I always soaked my pellets for just a few minutes in tank water before putting them in the tank.

Your fish will be happy to get their upgrade!

HI! thanks for helping!

I've seen lots of videos in youtube polys and ropes living togheter. Of course, you cant put a baby rope with a poly, but as long as they are the same size in a tank big enough for them, I think its no problem, since they are well feed.
As I said, my tank is too small for a while, but Im gona get another bigger soon.
Now my baby ornatipinnis is 3 times shorter than the rope and theyre doing fine.
Check out:

I gave some pieces of shrimp to the rope and he has eating. I give pellets to the ornate and Im not sure yet the rope is eating pellets. I think so he's getting one or another when hes hungry. As soon as the pellets get into the tank, some minutes after the rope moves. I think hes searching for food. I dont know. Anyway, when I turn of the lights I give the shrimp. And he eats. A little shy, but eats.

I think soon or later he will get used to. Got to be patient and let the things go on.

Third video was delhezi and ropes, all those ornate video are still small, i think what @magpie is trying to say is when a ornate reaches 12”+ them its a whole different scenerio.

I do remember @Dr.B mentioned him having some ropes with his 18”+ LJ but its always a risk.
