looks like gill curl to me, water quality could be an issue, i know some members have resolved this either by doing a lot of water changes aswell as adding salt or cutting off the affected area..
Thanks for the input silverdragon

I wonder, how can it be water quality issue ... should not all the inhabitants get it then? Besides, the water paramaters are fine according to test strips.

I wonder if it is because of the missing 3 lower whisker (missing since bought). The curl is on the same side. Note that the curl is on the soft tissue only -the hard plates is fine

Surgery??? Yikes... i don't think we have that kind of facilities or qualified people =(

I was wondering along the lines of isolation and medication. What kind of medication?

Will it grow back? Is there any issue with post bleeding. Is this done by vets?

I would like lots of opinions whether this condition is life threatening to the fish ... at the moment it is aesthetic problem only.

You actually drug your fish and put it to sleep and you can take it out of the water using a wet towel and just cut the affected area off with sharp scissors. Dont use a dry towel as this will remove the fish's slime coat, i forget what you spray in the water to put your fish to sleep, im preety sure your LFS can help you with that. Theres heaps of videos on you tube aswell of people performing drop eye and gill curl surgery on their asian arowanas.

Thanks i am gonna ask LFS ... but over here, i am not anyone would do something like to RTC ...seems a lot of hassle for RTC (and not a fish vet that i am aware of). I will try to scour youtube for videos of something similar.... the name of med would be useful, please ^^

Again, if there is concensus that it is not life threating then i will just leave it as it is.

its only life threating if it gets worse and the gills start to get exposed, if they do then this may complicate the fish's breathing and with the gills exposed may lead to infections, however like i said before some have cured this with water changes and maintaining a strict water change schedule..

Okies, silverdragon, then i will keep an eye. Worse case, i will need to set up a temp. holding place for him and keep him there ... trouble is, there will be no glass to see if he is getting better (seeing that the problem is at the bottom). ... getting the fella out of the set-up could also be tricky, i think gotta think this through
