Does that go for the display tank too?? Right now i have a max 2" layer of sand in there, and in some areas less than that.

I would do the same amount of sand in the display as well for your micro-fauna to go crazy in breeding for the general health of the setup. Some people however go bare-bottom and do fine so I guess it's more of what you like more then what I do but I always do about 4-6 inches of sand in my tank's.

I got about 21 more pounds of live rock. That brings me to about 35-40 pounds total in the tank so I guess I'm still short of 1 pound per gallon, but I'm gettin there. I've also picked out a T5 light setup that I should be able to go pick up mid next week. I'm still trying to decide whether to go with blue moon lights or white ones.

I'm also trying to decide what kind of powerhead to buy. I don't want to buy a whole wave machine setup yet...too expensive. But I would like to be able to buy a couple more later and integrate them into a wave machine eventually. Any suggestions on what kind/brand I should get??

Also, my buddy that sold me the live rock mentioned that I should really have a "sock" over the end of the hose delivering water from my tank into my sump. What are those actually called?? Is it necessary to have one??

I highly recommend Koralia brand powerheads. You can put them anywhere, they come in all sorts of sizes, and they look cooler than your basic "boxy" powerhead.

As for the sock thing... he means something over the intake so fish and other things you don't want in your sump, don't end up in your sump. I'm not sure what there really called.

I now see you have an overflow, a sock would be pointless.

#1 get a new biowheel for new bacteria

#2 yep the live rock should flourish with any flouescent or ultraviolet lights

#3 keep the rock in yh its part of the process

#4 it should be enough i have a lot of live rock in my tank and i dont have a sump

#5 just make sure u keep an eye out on the phosphates

and welcome to the salty club its very rare indeed to see saltys on this foum all u usually see are tropies

I'll definitely check out the Koralia powerheads. How do they compare to other brands pricewise??

The sock he was referring to goes on the end of the tube that is in the sump to catch debris that has already traveled through the overflow. I know what its for I'm just not sure if I really need one. I'm leaning towards getting one though. Here is one they are selling on the marinedepot website, they are calling it a Berlin Sump Filter Sock...

You know thats actually the one I've been looking at getting. Unless a really good deal for a different one pops up on craigslist or something then I'll probably be getting that one in the next couple weeks.

I added more sand to my refugium, but I still need to get some more for it. I decided I'm going to stick with a roughly 2" layer in my display tank and go for 3-4" in the refugium. I also got a light for the refugium....its a 75 watt floodlight bulb that I had laying around. Will that be sufficient for the fuge or should I be looking for a certain type of bulb??

I had to post some more pics cuz I think the setup looks cool with the light on the fuge :naughty:....

that's good to hear about the powerhead, sand level should be fine and look's great in the pic's for the Fuge lighting I just have a regular aquarium PC nothing special because it's a place for zooplankton and they don't need bright light just a regular cheap PC. The flood light will be fine until you get a regular PC just watch to make sure it don't affect the temp.
