Seachem Prime killing my Plecos!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i do 50% water changes every week, and my plecos actually play in the stream of water and show no signs of stress, but i do add conditioner before the new water not after.

If I m not mistaken, reaction time takes up to 8 hours

Why do water conditioner bottles never give you proper instructions, especially for python users?

I never thought there was a problem with 50% water change, but I guess if they are already stressed it might be best to take it easy.

Is that what most of you guys do?

It would be helpful to know how you guys use prime with a python.

I want to know the safest way to change water like this.

Thanks guys!
Yes. The only time it's safe to only treat for the amount you replace is when you are using buckets, so you can treat the new water directly, but otherwise you need to treat the entire tank before refilling it.

Actually, I'm looking at my bottle right now and it says:

... May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume...
^^^Which is actually pretty accurate, though I do disagree with them when they say "...but better if added to new water first...," ime you get the same results either way. And it really doesn't specify when to treat the water, but other than that I don't see anything wrong with their instructions.. You just have to read past the first couple sentences. ;)

yeah, dose based on total aquarium water volume, not the added/top-up volume( which is what most ppl do)
