Very much south..
I think you have mislabled your setup. That is not what most people would consider a home aquarium, but a good sized pond. Congratulations!
Exactly this!
Nothing in common with a home tank.

There is a lot of info on raising them. Congrats are in order, in any case!!

Another reason the parents can be stripped of the young is...not all parents are "good" parents.

i.e. Eat the young...or if they are scared or skittish fish...they may do something undesirable spontaineously.

But it is always fun to leave the babies with the parents until they must be removed or separated (aggression or over-crowding)...so you can see the natural behavior between babies & parents as they grow.:)

Congrats!!!:):)

Thank you Miguel and Pigoo :)

I would have loved to let them be. Buy I am pretty much sure the cats in there won't spare the lil ones.
It would be nice to have some home bred Aros ;)

I know stripping is fairly easy with Asians.

What I read is that it is not so with SA's. ( Local captors cut, so I read, the males head off, for that, which is a savagery ).

Will you strip the eggs or wait for the fry to be born?

The mere thought of holding this fella in my hand and stripping gives me a lil scare. Wouldnt want the eggs/fries to be damaged. I was actually thinking of waiting it out to see the eggs hatched and then collect it.
No way I would consider such savagery like the locals :D....

The fact that they are breeding in the pond is more satisfying to know. If I can manage to get the babies and raise them that would be just awesome.
I will wait it out and see how things pan out.

With the 2 foot monster catfish I don't have a holding place for now. Even the 15" RTC cannot be kept in my tank. Only option would be a kiddie pool which I am considering.

Let's see how things build up.

Just keep in mind that,to my knowledge, apart from farm breeding, a guy in Laos did it and now you.

I would let the eggs hatch. And then as you say, go from there. Babies will hide in the fathers mouth, mbut less and less, as they get bigger.

I would do the whole course without separating them. First couple, firts time parents, would do nothing to jeopardize that.

At the most, cats would come out....

Hi Miguel, been careful on deciding my next course of action. I am going to put up a divider in the pond and keep them separated. Will have to ensure they and the rest get enough space for themselves.
Hopefully, this can reduce a lot stress and undue attention from the cats while feeding. The RTC goes mad during feeding and would rocket around the pond like a nutcase :D

Here is a Day 8 video update. I wished I had the underwater cam now :|

BTW, any idea on how long or when the hatching takes place?
And for long do the parents take care of them?
This being so rare an event in this hobby finding the info required is difficult.
