I have a big very old aro that lives in solitary because every time I try to move him up to the community tank, after a couple weeks he attacks every fish. He has no choice but to stay lonely. I had a pair of aros that when the one died after 9 years, the other layed on the bottom of the tank for weeks without eating.
Some fish seem to grieve or sulk if their mate died

what things can you give them to do?

Thanks for the input guys
Leaves, aquatic insects to hunt, dithers to chase, make them work for their food (jumping tricks or have make them chase food), add different objects for them to investigate, some fish enjoy playing with ping pong balls and elephant nose fish have been seen playing with balls of tinfoil, other fish enjoy digging in gravel or sand for bits of food or live creatures like black worms
