So, this topic exists on almost every reptile forum there is, but I haven't seen it here.
What do you guys think of keeping snakes in sparsely decorated tubs rather than in an actual vivarium?
Quite a controversial topic so no arguments please!:)

Terrarium. The only reason to use a tub is if you have a large number of snakes. If it gets to the point where you need to use small tubs to house them, then I think it's time to start asking whether or not you should have that many snakes.. It's funny how all the methods for determining proper cage size go out the window when it's a big breeder...

:headbang2 Nail on the head right here.

On a side nite, I keep all of my animals in aquariums or cages I build out of wood. Nothing is put into a container unless it's a baby since it's more cost effective to buy a $6 bin then it is a $250 cage.

Thanks for the opinions. I think it also depends on the species.. For example, a sand boa that sleeps buried in the sand all day will probably do better in a tub than a green tree python, an arboreal species that relies heavily on camouflage.

Yes, terrariums.

Part of the thrill of keeping snakes for me is looking at them through a nice clear piece of glass or plexi, I much rather see my animals, when im in there room.

Id rather not look at a bunch of cloudy plastic containers, and have to pop a top or slide open a draw to just veiw them.

Definately, here you have again the factor: Is it your own, "pet" snake or a simple breeder.

I use both personally, I keep my more active Snakes in tanks and my lazy ones in Tubs

I personnally prefer vivs. It is the european way.

Having said that, there are a lot of guys who know what they are doing who keep them in tubs or racks, GP's included.

As said, depends on a lot of factors.

Vivariums, if one compromises on husbandry are way more dangerous than tubs.

I will say that I keep venomous species in tanks or something similar always, I like the piece of mine of being able to see exactly where they are before doing any maintenance.
