I got to say I live on the main salmon and steelhead river in southern Michigan. And everyone of us only use braided line. It humors us when a hill jake comes down there with mono, or fluro. But its also not cool when the hill jack gets snagged and the line breaks close to the rod then you got all his dang line in the river. I love my rods and Reels I have two Gloomis rods and a st. croix. I use Pflueger Reels But have a few other brands on my other setups. For catfish and sturgeon fishing You cant beat braided line.calgaryflames;4092060; said:how many pros use braided lines in tournaments these days. Not many and if they do its 100% of the time will have a fluorocarbon leader.I dont just fish once or twice but hundreds of time a year.I live minutes from the best trout river in the world,Your right its may not be the gear but the person using it,i figure if i go enough times a year why not treat myself to a nice rod reel combo.some people take fishing alot more serious that a $14 combo.

Meyers over spring break and loved that line. had on a 4ft 30lb flouro leader and had no problem slaying the snook and reds. The amount of strength that the braid has is unmatched. plus its just as thin as the 12lb Sufix Siege mono I had on before. Now that I'm back up in Gainesville at school, me and my friends go night fishing for bass and I don't use a leader any more. Still slay them. Last night me and my friend each caught around 10 bass and he caught 2 that were at least 7lbs and had on 3 more that he said felt bigger. Braided line is the way to go. Not to mention I find it more sensitive than mono

Second its sinks so you cant really using it in any where you are doing slow presentations in areas with snags. And third it has some bad knot strength, not as in braid where if you dont do enough loops its slips, but as in the line cracks on the knots. Flurocarbon might be good leader for bigwater fishing but, im never spooling up with it again.
